Volunteer quilters create tributes to veterans (Submitted Photo)

CHENANGO COUNTY – The One Stitch at a Time quilting group, along with several volunteer quilters, have been very busy this past year making and delivering quilts to show veterans that we appreciate their service and personal sacrifice.

Our way of honoring them is by presenting them with a 'Quilt of Honor.'

This group of volunteers made and distributed 24 quilts this year for a total of over seventy quilts in the last three years to WWII and Korean veterans, from Hamilton to Oxford.  If you are aware of a WWII or Korean Conflict veteran who has not already received a Quilt of Honor, please do let us know.

This year, special quilt presentations were made to Ed Tucker, Adjutant for the VFW Post #189 in Norwich and to Darlene Ardron, Commander of American Legion Post #376 of Oxford, NY.  They were presented with quilts in recognition for all their hard efforts over the past two years in honoring the WWII and Korean Conflict Veterans in the Norwich and Oxford area.

The One Stitch at a Time quilting group is now planning to honor Vietnam Era Veterans in the Sherburne, Columbus, Smyrna, North Norwich and Earlville areas. Since September, we have presented over twenty-three quilts to these veterans.  Pictured are just two of the quilts that were presented in Sherburne this year which were presented to Rick Merhib and Jim Taylor.

However, we need your assistance.  We currently have sixty-one vets on our list, but we know there are more we are just not aware of.  If you know of a veteran from Vietnam Era from the previously mentioned areas, please let us know.  In order for us to continue in our efforts to honor our area veterans, we welcome donations of patriotic fabric as well as monetary donations.  If you would like to assist us with this endeavor, please contact Linda Tredway at 607-674-9288 or Brenda Crandall at 674-4852.
