NORWICH – Thursday night, a pair of riders on a stolen motorcycle led the Norwich City Police on pursuit that began in downtown Norwich and ended 25 miles away in Unadilla.

City of Norwich Police Chief Reuben J. Roach said the sports bike, a Yamaha R6, eventually pulled over and the driver surrendered.

He said the riders were apprehended and an amount of methamphetamine was recovered. Roach said the bike sped up in spots but then slowed down.

Roach surmised that perhaps the motorcycle driver recognized he was an inexperienced operator and also had a passenger.

The chief explained, “He just pulled over and said, he's 'Done running.'”

The Norwich Police reported the driver as, Cody McCrady, age 31, of Chenango Forks. He is being held in custody pending a court appearance.

He was arrested and charged with first degree reckless endangerment and third degree criminal possession of stolen property, D-class felonies. He is also charged with fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property, and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanors.

The passenger, Nichole L. Wiggins, age 27, of Greene, was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. She was released and will appear in court at a later date.

The chase began when an NPD patrol officer noticed a bent license plate on the bike, and tried to pull it over on South Broad Street in Norwich.

“My officers used the latest emergency vehicle operation tactics, and they were able to follow these two subjects, and eventually take them into custody,” said Chief Roach.
