OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks softball team welcomed the Afton Crimson Knights for Thursday’s MAC match-up. Prior to the game, Oxford honored its two seniors. Congratulations to Ava Benjamin and Leah Oliver. Following the recognition, both teams squared off and what was a high-scoring affair, which Oxford won 27-11, giving them their second win of the season.

Oxford got on the board first with four runs, added 10 runs in the second, three more in the third, one in the fourth, five in the fifth, and finished it off with a four-run sixth. Oxford’s 10-run second inning started with three straight walks to load the bases and a fourth walk brought in a run before Lily Marshman cleared the bases with a double. An error scored two runs and Margaret Rovente hit an RBI single to follow. Peyton Cummings stole home to add on while Abi Stone drove in a run on a single, and Ava Benjamin capped off the inning with a two-run double. Stone and Marshman both finished 3-for-5 at the plate with Marshman driving in a team-high six RBIs on the day. Peyton Cummings had three hits as well and drove in three runs. Ava Benjamin drove in three runs and Leah Oliver had four RBIs in the win.

Marshman struck out 10 batters on the mound for the Blackhawks.
