NEW BERLIN – After two tough road games, the Unadilla Valley Storm PONY League team hosted Richfield on Thursday evening. UV had a few scoring chances, but were shutout 16-0 in five innings.

Richfield took a dominant 10-0 lead in the first inning and added on in the second and third before the Storm had a clean fourth and a more controlled fifth inning on defense.

Declan Potter started on the mound for UV, where he was shaken up, but was able to get through an inning and a third. Natalie Crandall finished the game in relief, where she found her groove after a while and was able to shut down four batters with strikeouts. She also had solid work from the defense with Potter moving to shortstop and having four successful chances on getting batters out at first. UV also picked off three batters, who tried to advance a base.

The Storm had five batters reach base with Zayne Dibbell having the only hit of the night with a single to center in the first inning. Declan Potter had a chance to score in the fourth inning, but was caught stealing at home plate.

UV (0-3) travels to Edmeston on Monday at 6 p.m.
