Greene advances to section finals; Oxford falls in overtime

Greene 3, Vestal 1

GREENE – Greene will look for its first Section IV field hockey title since the 2002 season after beating Vestal Tuesday afternoon.

The Trojans upended the Golden Bears for the third time this season, and will match up with Whitney Point at 6 p.m. Friday at Oneonta State. Greene (13-3) has two wins over the Golden Eagles in the regular season.

“Vestal played us tough, and at this point in the season, you’re hoping to get a good game,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin.

Megan Boeltz scored off a penalty corner at the 9:47 mark of the first half getting a feed from Christine Conroe. Sara Ostrander netted the eventual winner in the second half, although Vestal created a dent in the margin scoring two minutes after Ostrander’s tally. Holly Davis tacked on an insurance goal later in the half. “I think our kids came up with big plays tonight when we needed them, both offensively and defensively,” Carlin said.
