NEW BERLIN – On Saturday the streets of New Berlin will be lined with vendors as area businesses come together for the first New Berlin Crawl. The event, concocted by America’s Sweet Spot Owner Samantha Yawza, will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday rain or shine.
“I was trying to come up with something fun for our town,” Yawza said. The idea stemmed from a desire to bring people into the community, promote area businesses and give residents something to do to kick off the holiday weekend. At most vendor events, vendors have to pay to set up a booth. This event is different. It is free for vendors, provides free advertising and is a fun way to get outside and be out and about in the community.
Those who attend are encouraged to start at America’s Sweet Spot, where they will be given a BINGO card. They can fill their card by stopping at 10 area businesses to get stamps. Each card is different and has the names of different businesses. Completed BINGO cards can be turned in at America’s Sweet Spot for free ice cream, donated by Gilligan’s.
Food trucks, breweries and coffee trucks will be set up in the funeral home parking lot. Craft and vendor tents will be set up from the middle of town all the way to the fire house. Bouncy houses will be set up at Millford Academy and wrist bands for all day bouncing will be available for sale. The library will offer crafts that people can create on site. The fire department will have a training race event set up at the station and Village Pottery will have pottery available to paint inside the Chobani Center at the Fire House.
“Every business and vendor is participating in a giveaway. It could be a raffle or a free item with a purchase, but each business will offer something.”
Vendors include small bakeries, t-shirt makers, and farmer’s market type booths. Traffic will be slowed down within the village to ensure safety and an office will be posted in town as well. “We want people to get out and have fun,” Yazwa said.
The event is free to attend and open to the public. “Food and vendor items will be reasonably priced,” Yazwa said.
All area parking lots will be open and some street parking will be available as well. “The goal is to get people to walk from [America’s Sweet Spot] to the Fire Department.”
America’s Sweet Spot is located at 22 N. Main Street in New Berlin.
