OXFORD – The 15th annual Tim Evans Memorial Golf Tournament was held on Saturday at Bluestone Golf Course in Oxford. The tournament featured 18 teams and raised money for the American Cancer Society that was near and dear to the family’s hearts this year as they lost their Uncle Robert Smith to cancer.

The tournament was started 15 years ago to honor Tim Evans by his friends and former coworkers at Blueox. The tournament became a scholarship in the beginning to help raise money for college expenses for his sons. Today, the tournament gives back locally and has chosen a different cause every year whether it’s been the Norwich Family YMCA, All Animals Matter, and other local charities.

The American Cancer Society was chosen this year with the funds from door prizes, which several local businesses donated gift cards and other valuable gifts, and team fees going directly to the organization. Michelle, a representative from the American Cancer Society, attended the tournament and provided help and support.

Michelle said the proceeds will be sent to one of three different funds, of the family’s choosing. The three different funded programs are for Pediatric Cancer Research, Hope Lodge, which helps place the cancer patient and a family member in a free residential center close to where they receive treatment, or the Road to Recovery, where volunteers provide free rides to patients to and from their treatments.

The family was very appreciative to give back to such a caring organization and also have a local representative at the tournament. The Tim Evans Memorial Golf Tournament happens every year on the second weekend in June.
