OXFORD – After three hard losses to start the 2023 season, the Oxford Blackhawks softball team finally embraced their first win on Friday afternoon in a 17-9 win over Unatego. The Blackhawks scored 11 runs on 10 of their 17 total hits in the sixth inning to secure the victory.
Naiomi Smith led the Oxford offense with four hits on the day and earned the win on the mound. Ella Kelsey made great strides on defense with hustling in for fly balls while providing three hits at the plate.
Taegan Manwarren, Kyla Kelsey-Jones, Ava Benjamin, and Madison Long had multiple hits in the win while Lizzy Knapp reached base on three walks. Leah Oliver reached base three times as well on a single and two walks as Olivia Barbosa hit a single in the big sixth inning.
Oxford travels to Bainbridge-Guilford this afternoon for a game expected to begin at 4:30 p.m.
