GREENE— The Greene Trojans girls soccer team hosted a newly merged UV/GMU team on Wednesday night under the lights on the turf field for the 2026 season opener. After a slow start, Greene stepped up their play in the second half to defeat the Storm 5-1 in front of their home crowd.

UV/GMU took an early 1-0 lead as Noelle Fernandez-Naughton crossed and netted the first goal of the game within the opening five minutes.

Greene answered back with some deep action with many corner kicks but could not tie it up until about two minutes to go until halftime. Hailey Butler found Khloe Waltz to tie the game at 1 a piece.

Greene continued to play strong to start the second half with early shots and deep action, keeping the ball on their end of the field where Butler scored to break the tie.

Butler scored again three minutes later to give the Trojans some wiggle room up 3-1.

UV/GMU’s Logan Lindholm fought back with a few breakaways but was stopped by a fierce Greene defense. Fernandez-Naughton also had another big breakaway but had a high kick to it.

Greene’s Miah Cragle and Peyton Finch also scored in the win.

Greene (1-0) will be playing in the Sherburne-Earlville kick-off tournament this Friday and UV/GMU (0-1) heads to Mount Markham on Friday.
