NORWICH – On Thursday evening, the Norwich pony league baseball team held on to a 3-2 win over Sherburne. Sherburne threatened in the sixth inning but could not tie the game.

Norwich added two runs early as Zack Parker led things off with a single with Jackson Sastri pulling up behind him also with a single. Sastri would finish 3-for-3 on the day with all singles. Colin Olds drove in Parker with a groundout RBI before Sastri would score on a RBI single by Anthony Pomares. Pomares finished the game with two RBIs, including a sac-fly in the third, which happened to be the game-winner for Norwich.

Sherburne was held to two hits on the day but also reached base on walks and errors. With two men on in the fourth inning, Carter Suspensky brought in a run with a double. Dom Fowlston also came up big for Sherburne with a single to lead off the sixth and scored on a groundout RBI from Espn Anderson.

With Sherburne threatening to tie the game, Zack Parker came in to get the last out for Norwich on the mound. He did so by striking out Suspensky to end the inning.

Braden Reid got the win for Norwich after five and two-third innings and struck out seven batters. Parker struck out the only batter he faced while Sastri got the save in the seventh after some trouble with runners on. He was able to strike out three consecutive batters to close the game and seal the victory.

Norwich will stay home to host Oneonta on Monday evening starting at 6 p.m.
