BOYS' BASKETBALL

Windsor 47, Norwich 45

WINDSOR - Norwich's last-second tying shot attempt was off the mark as Windsor held on for the two-point win over the ninth-seeded Purple Tornado (8-13) on Wednesday night.

Norwich had the ball with under a minute to play with a chance to take the lead, but a steal by Windsor's K.J. Hagley and layup gave Windsor a 46-43 lead.

After a Tornado bucket that closed the margin to one, Andrew Buckler made it 47-45 after converting one of two free throws, which preceded Norwich's final possession.

"It was a great game. Our kids played hard, and Windsor's kids played hard," said Norwich coach Tom Collier. "I said (to the team), the first team to 45 wins this game, and (Windsor) got to 45 first."

The two clubs played even at 28-28 through two quarters, but neither team mustered much offense in the third.

Norwich was scoreless in the third period until the three-minute mark of the third quarter when Steven Dowdall broke the ice. A single free throw from Wyatt Thornton completed Norwich's third-quarter output of three points, but the Tornado only trailed Windsor 34-31 heading to the fourth.

"This was a summation of our season," Collier said. "We didn't shoot it well, and we went into a lull (on offense) in the third quarter."

Torin Lawrence and Logan Ford combined for 11 of Norwich's 13 points in the final quarter. Lawrence finished with 13 to lead the Purple Tornado, Ford had 11, and Keegan Franklin scored 10.
