Greene Shakes Off Rust In Win Over UV

NEW BERLIN - The lack of games had little effect on Greene in the first quarter Thursday night at Unadilla Valley.

Playing just their third game in 22 days, the Trojans (8-1) jumped out to a 15-1 first-quarter lead en route to their eighth win.                     

"We were really aggressive to start the game, and we made it a point to come out with intensity," said Greene coach Dave Gorton. "To start the game we were very focused, and had some outstanding offensive sets."

Payton Yahner had six points in the opening quarter, and Olivia Kennedy netted four.

Yahner scored all 17 of her points through three quarters of action, while Kennedy and Abby Yahner scored nine apiece.

"It was good to get back on the court tonight, and we have a lot of games scheduled," Gorton said, who has had multiple game cancellations. "It's (this season) been very weird. I've never had a season where so many games were stacked at the end."

Kadence York led UV (3-10) with 11 points.

Bainbridge-Guilford 51, Deposit-Hancock 21

BAINBRIDGE - Bainbridge-Guilford won for the fourth time in five games, and reached the .500 mark for the first time since the start of the season following Thursday's win over Deposit-Hancock.

Celeste Baldwin keyed a fast Bobcats starting hitting two 3s and scoring eight points in the first, while Johnna Henderson had seven in a 19-4 opening quarter.

Danielle McEntee carried the B-G (5-5) scoring over the final three quarters finishing with a game-high 16 points. Baldwin added 10 points and Henderson nine.

Oxford 51, Afton 16

AFTON - Oxford reached double-digit wins on the season getting off to a fast start at Afton on Thursday.

Oxford jumped out to an 18-3 lead after one quarter of play.

Madalyn Barrows scored the Blackhawks' first 10 points, which included both of her 3 balls. Barrows finished with a team-high 16 points in just 14 minutes of action.

Naiomi Smith added nine points, Ella Kelsey scored eight, and Bailey Chesebro led the defense with eight rebounds.

WRESTLING

Norwich captures dual meet win; Bears drop two

NORWICH - At Norwich High School, the host Purple Tornado captured the final match in a 36-30 victory over B-G/Afton/Harpursville, and in a second dual, B-G/A/H fell to Walton-Delhi, 48-18.

Norwich benefited from five forfeits, and Rob McIntyre (285) clinched his team's victory in the final bout pinning the Bears' Zack Decamp in 48 seconds.

B-G/A/H only captured three matches in the defeat to Walton Delhi.

Darren Florance (102) won by forfeit, Joey Florance (118) grabbed a pin over Garrett Copeland in 48 seconds, and Brady Buttice (172) stuck Nick Lane in just 24 ticks.

The results of the Walton-Delhi  versus Norwich dual meet were not available at press time.
