SIDNEY – Oxford’s furious fourth-quarter rally fell a few points short as the Blackhawks fell to Sidney on Thursday evening.

The Blackhawks scored just four points in the first half - none in the second quarter - and finished out the first two quarters shooting 2-for-33 from the field.

Sidney led by four at the break, extended the margin to 12 at the end of three, and led by as many as 16 points in the second half as Oxford managed just 12 points through three quarters.

“We were able to fight back to make it a one-possession game with under a minute to play,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer.

Oxford closed a 12-point deficit to start to fourth to 28-27 after a Madalyn Barrows three-pointer.

Sidney stretched the lead back to six, 33-27, after an Emma Simmons layup, a Simmons free throw, and an Ava Cirigliano deuce.

Barrows led Oxford’s final push hitting another 3, followed by an Ava Benjamin bucket that made it 34-32.

Sidney made it a two-possession game with less than 10 seconds to play following a Courtney Mondore basket.

“I’m very proud of our team for competing to the end,” Palmer said.  “We were a little out of synch; however, we have to give credit to Sidney for making things difficult.”
