NORWICH – The Chenango Greenway Conservancy announced two major donations in support of The Stone Quarry acquisition: $25,000 from The Roger Follett Foundation and $50,000 from The Greater Norwich Foundation.

“We are grateful for the generous support of the Roger Follett Foundation and The Greater Norwich Foundation and appreciate these organizations recognizing this critical opportunity to protect a piece of Norwich heritage,” said Sharon Pelosi, Chairperson of the Chenango Greenway Conservancy. “These donations bring us to about 70 percent of the acquisition costs in just twelve weeks of our community fundraising campaign! The level of community interest and enthusiasm for this undertaking is truly remarkable.”

The Chenango Greenway Conservancy’s Stone Quarry project was also selected by the Evans family to receive the proceeds of the 12th annual Timothy Evans Memorial Golf Tournament, held on June 12 at the Blue Stone Golf Course in Oxford.

Twenty teams participated in the tournament this year and raised $3,950.00 toward The Stone Quarry project. Tracey Evans and her sons Ryan and Andrew Evans selected The Stone Quarry project to receive the proceeds of the golf tournament as a way of continuing to honor Tim Evans who loved hiking.

In the coming weeks, an additional matching grant opportunity from a local business will be available to double the impact of community donations. Stone Quarry merchandise will soon be available for purchase on the Chenango Greenway website with all proceeds going to support the purchase and improvements to the property.

The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity organized in 2006 to develop a network of multiple use recreation trails in and around the City of Norwich. The Greenway Conservancy has a contract to purchase the Stone Quarry and is engaged in a community fundraising effort to raise enough money to buy it.
