NORWICH - The National Warplane Museum’s Geneseo Airshow will now include Chenango County after growing demand for a show of honor highlighting essential workers in the Southern Tier.

According to Chenango County Planning Department Director Shane Butler, Chenango County wasn’t originally planned to be in the airshow, but after requests from Southern Tier residents, the National Warplane Museum has added it to the flight path.

Butler said at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Saturday three planes will fly over select areas of Chenango County.

He said the flight is at no cost to taxpayers, and will include The New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, Chenango Memorial Hospital, and the Lt. Warren Eaton Airport. He added that the planes included a Douglas C-47 named Whiskey Seven (W-7), a P51 Mustang called Mad Max, and a photography plane to capture photos of aerial formations.

“I worked with Dave Dibbell from the Experimental Aircraft Association to reach out to the museum and see if they would be able to include us in their flight path,” said Butler. “I think it’s important that we do everything we can to show our essential workers that their efforts are important, and this acts as a tribute to everyone during these tough times.”

“It’s one of those fun and safe things for people to enjoy, it doesn’t happen very often in Chenango County and it's something to look forward to.”
