New York State Police To Increase Patrols Memorial Weekend

CHENANGO COUNTY - New York State Police Troop C representatives recently announced that there will be an increased number of law enforcement patrols throughout Chenango County and the surrounding areas this weekend as part of a statewide effort to combat drunk, impaired, and reckless driving.

According to Troop C Public Information Office Aga Dembinska, the STOP-DWI enforcement period starts on Friday, May 22, and runs through Tuesday, May 26.

On Memorial Day weekend in 2019, Dembinska said Troopers arrested 225 people for drinking and driving, issued 13,693 total tickets, and investigated 134 personal injury crashes, which resulted in four fatalities. She added that in addition to the New York State Police, numerous counties and agencies throughout the state also participate in the annual Memorial Day Crackdown.

Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that they will also be on the lookout from drunk, impaired, and reckless driving as well.
