BAINBRIDGE – The host Bobcats of Bainbridge-Guilford broke open the game against Afton early by going on a 22-5 run in the first quarter. B-G then captured the Midstate Athletic Conference post-season win with a final of 62-42 Wednesday night.
Leading the charge for B-G in the first quarter were the duo of Michael Stevens and Haiden Burns as the two combined to score 18 of the teams’ points. Stevens ended the night with a game-high 19 points and Burns finished with 10.
The Bobcats’ Ethan Gregory also scored 10 points in the win, posting a career high on the night. He recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds. Teammate Parker Finch added nine boards and four steals to aid in the efforts for B-G.
“A lot of guys on our team were able to get in and played a lot of minutes for us tonight,” said Bainbridge-Guilford head coach Brad Aldrich. “It was a great team effort in the win.”
Afton, playing with only five players for the second straight game, had three finish in double figures. The Crimson Knights’ Michael Roach tallied a team-high 14 points in the loss while Alex Commesso and Scott Merrill registered 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Knights got off to a slow start in the contest, scoring just 14 points in the first half but found their offensive rhythm in the second with 28. 18 of their second half points came on made shots from beyond the 3-point arc. Four of the five players drained a 3-pointer in the half.
