ONEONTA – Norwich’s Abby Flynn went to the line with her team trailing by two points with 31 seconds left. Missing the front end of the two attempts, Flynn made the second to cut the deficit to one point.

On the ensuing possession, the Lady Tornado put on their usual hard-nosed, full-court pressure defense to force the host Yellowjackets to make a mistake.

The strategy worked as Oneonta’s Yuliah Johnson broke the press but threw a pass that sailed over her teammate’s head and out of bounds, awarding the ball back to Norwich.

Getting two chances in the final 22 seconds of the game, the Purple Tornado were unable to convert and the Yellowjackets were able to come away with 42-41 win at home.

The win secured the Southern Tier Athletic Conference East Division title for Oneonta.

The Yellowjackets’ Ava Eichler drained a 3-pointer in the early minutes of the game, giving the home team a 5-4 lead. However, pushing the pace right from the start, Norwich built an 8-0 answer to go ahead 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.
