NORWICH – With 6:43 remaining in the ball game, the Maine-Endwell Spartans took their first lead of the contest against the host Lady Purple Tornado.

The two teams exchanged leads three times over the next four minutes of play and were tied at 47-47 after Norwich’s Margaret Dougher got to the rim with 1:58 remaining.

At the other end of the floor, M-E’s Allie L’Amoreaux knocked down a 15-footer for the final lead change as the Spartans captured the 57-52 win.

The Tornado’s Abby Flynn made the score 52-51 with less than 30 seconds remaining and head coach Josh Bennett quickly called a timeout.

As the timeout was being awarded to Norwich, some after the play contact led to Bennett pleading with the officials to make a call as it wasn’t the first time in the contest this occurred.

After several displays of unwarranted physical contact over the course of the game, the final blow was more than enough to bring Bennett on the floor to speak with the referees.

Instead of seeing what the Tornado head coach was trying to discuss, Bennett was hit with a technical foul and the Spartans’ Katie L’Amoreaux went to the other end for two free throws. Making both attempts, Maine-Endwell went ahead 54-51.

Another three free throws made by the Spartans while the home team made just one led to the final difference of five points.
