ONEONTA – For the eighth time in 11 years, the Greene Trojans’ boys soccer club returned home at the Midstate Athletic Conference Champions after defeating the Delhi Bulldogs Saturday morning at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta.

“Feels nice this year because we lost nine seniors after last season and were suppose to have a ‘down year’,” said Rick Tallman, Trojans’ head coach after the game. “This team has heart and determination, which I thoroughly enjoy.”

On October 9, the Bulldogs were able to knock off Greene 4-1 to give the Trojans their first league loss of the 2019 season. Prior to that loss, Greene had only lost to Dryden in the opening round of the Greene Boys Soccer tournament.

The Trojans quickly bounced back from both losses to start a new win streak and Saturday’s victory on the league’s championship stage extended the newest streak to four.

“We had two players on concussion protocol, a player out with a broken clavicle and another missing with personal reasons,” said Tallman. “Delhi did not see us at our full capacity that time around.

“No matter what the reason for the loss, we used it as fuel, along with other things, for the third game against them this season and we prevailed.”

Jonny Lee gave Greene the early 1-0 lead after 10 minutes of play as the Greene’s forward sent a rebounded attempt back into the net.
