SHERBURNE – The Village of Sherburne library is among librararies across New York’s 51st Assembly District that may be eligible for grant funds to improve their building.

Community libraries throughout the district were recently awarded a total $253,613 in public library construction grant funds. These grants can help local libraries to build new structures or add to existing ones, update electrical wiring, improve energy efficiency, improve accessability for the disabled, and provide meeting rooms to accommodate community needs. New furniture, shelving, and equipment, including computer equipment, can also be purchased for new or newly renovated space.

The grants are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction that’s provided in the 2015-2016 New York State budget. Additionally, the final state budget includes $19 million which will be available for library projects next year.
