Bail increased for man accused of promoting prison contraband

NORWICH – Chenango County Court was in session this past Monday, March 28, to hear the narcotic drug related matter of Clifton J. Brooks, 49, of Binghamton.

Chenango County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. presided over the matter while First Assistant District Attorney Michael D. Ferrarese was representing the people on the matter.

Brooks was represented by Public Defender John Cameron.

Brooks was recently arrested on March 11, 2016 when a simple traffic stop in the Village of Greene led to officers allegedly finding narcotic drugs within the vehicle and within the possession of Brooks.

Brooks was arrested for and is facing the charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor; and the class D felony of promoting prison contraband in the first degree.

At the time of the arrest, Brooks was with two other individuals who have been identified as, Austin B. Hutchins, 21, of Sherburne; and Brock A. Strozier, 34, of Sherburne.

Both Hutchins and Strozier were charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument after they both were allegedly found to be in possession of hypodermic needles at the time of the stop.
