OXFORD - The Lady Bulldogs of Delhi continued their high level of play Tuesday night by handily beating the Oxford Lady Blackhawks in a divisional game, 59-21.

“Delhi is one of the top teams in our league along with Bainbridge, and we came out and probably played our best basketball in that first quarter. I think it was 8-4 after the first,” said Oxford Head Coach Chris Palmer.

The Lady Blackhawks had no answer for the full-court pressure put on by Delhi in the second quarter, and Oxford would be ailed by numerous turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs closed the half on a 20-8 run.

Delhi led 28-12 at the half behind Junior Kayla Spangenberg’s 8 points. Spangenberg would lead all scorers with 10 points in the game, and Junior Layla Kriz came off the bench to lead Oxford with a Varsity personal-high of 6 points.

The second half was owned by Delhi, and they eliminated any chance of a Lady Blackhawk comeback by ending the game on an 18-2 run. Sophomore Morgan Ehrhard dropped in 6 in the final quarter to seal the deal for the Lady Bulldogs.

“I was proud of our girls. We played our butts off and as far as I was concerned, for 12 out of the first 16 minutes, we played the best basketball we’ve played all year,” said Palmer. “It really doesn’t show on the scoreboard for us, but we really did play well for where we’re at. And hopefully we can bring that into the next couple of games.”

The loss moves Oxford to 0-10 on the season, and they will travel to Walton to take on the Warriors on Friday.
