County Basketball Wins Big Over Weekend

Sherburne-Earlville

SHERBURNE - In a rout against league opponent Canastota, the Sherburne-Earlville girls' varsity basketball team won 70-28.

On Friday, December 18, S-E got another win after hosting Canastota. The visitors kept it close through the first half after a 10-9 first quarter and a 16-12 second quarter, both in favor of S-E.

It wasn't until the third quarter until the Marauders hit their stride. S-E, led again by Lily Berg, put up 31 points in the third quarter and shut out Canastota.

Berg led the team with 21 total points and had a lot of help from the rest of her team. Both Miranda Wright and Savannah Irwin scored 11 on their way to another win.

The fourth quarter ended as S-E scored 13 more to bring their total to 70 on the night.

Bainbridge-Guilford

AFTON - Traveling to Afton on Friday, December 18, the Bainbridge-Guilford boys’ varsity basketball team defeated their neighbors down the road 52-39.

The Bobcats had a slow start but eventually found their stride mid-way through the game. The first quarter ended with Afton up 9-7 on B-G as their defense kept the visiting team away from the basket. It wasn’t until the second quarter when B-G began to get their shots to fall.

Up 20-19 coming out of the locker room and into the second half, B-G fired on all cylinders and began to click on offense and defense. Sean Jones scored nine of B-G’s 19 points in the third on his way to a 16 point game. The only player to score more than Jones was his team mate Trevor Halaquist who earned 20 on the night.

Now with a 39-28 point lead, B-G came into the third quarter with the momentum that they needed to win. The two teams would trade baskets until the final whistle and the game would end with B-G up 52-39 as the Bobcats earned another win.

Unadilla Valley

NEW BERLIN - Hosting Delhi on Friday, December 18, the UV girls’ varsity basketball team would lose a tough game 46-25.

The first quarter would see Delhi earn the lead that they would keep through the majority of the game. Scoring 11 to UV’s five in the first quarter, Delhi clamped down on defense and kept UV away from the basket and behind most of the game.
