Hamilton National Dance Day this weekend

HAMILTON – For the first time, local dancers of all experience levels will be able to participate in a series of dance workshops during the first ever Hamilton National Dance Day.

The event will occur over two days – starting at noon on Friday, July 25 and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 26 on the Village Green and in the Hamilton Center for the Arts in Hamilton.

Terica Adams, a recent Colgate University graduate and experienced dancer, decided to bring the dance day to the area for the first time this summer. It is part of the larger National Dance Day that was started in 2010 by Nigel Lythgoe, who is the co-creator of the national televised dance competition, “So You Think You Can Dance.”

NDD has major events in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and New York City. It always occurs on the last Saturday in July, and the Dizzy Feet Foundation, of which NDD is a part, has a website that states, “This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity.”
