Ramsaran released after posting bail, felony hearing Thursday

NORWICH – Charged in the murder of his wife, Jennifer L. Ramsaran, Ganesh Remy Ramsaran, 38, of New Berlin, posted bail this afternoon and has since been released, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

Ramsaran, on May 17, pleaded not guilty to one count of second degree murder in Chenango County Court, just hours after his arrest by authorities. His bail was set at $150,000 cash or $300,000 property by Chenango County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir, despite District Attorney Joseph McBride’s request he be remanded without bail.

Said McBride during the proceeding, “ ... he is facing 25 years to life if convicted, and he was born outside the country and has every reason to run.”

Jennifer Ramsaran was first reported missing by her husband the evening of Dec. 11, 2012. Her body was located months later, on Feb. 26, off an embankment near Center Road in the Town of Pharsalia, unclothed. The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office had no comment when contacted concerning Ramsaran’s release. Ramsaran is scheduled to appear for a felony hearing at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Town of New Berlin Court.
