Be prepared to be drawn into a giant woodland world of forest elves, gnomes, fairies and fantastic anthropomorphic reptiles, rodents and insects. D. Michael Price is a very talented fantasy artist whose works have graced the walls of hundreds of galleries both nationally and internationally. Well-respected as a successful fine artist as well as published children’s book author/illustrator, Michael’s works of fantasy art in the acrylic and oil mediums on canvas are sought after by private collectors worldwide.
Because Price is such an astute observer and a skilled interpreter, he’s able to achieve extensive, exquisite detail and atmosphere that can only be described as magical. In his illustrative genre, you will find he is simultaneously a traditionalist and an innovator. Illustrators of the late 19th to early 20th century, such as Howard Pyle and N.C. Wyeth, two of his favorites, as well as Kenneth Grahame and Johnny Gruelle might have been some of the inspiration for Price, but that’s where the tradition ends. That was an era of more muted tones. Michael’s paintings are modern and bold, with a vivid, graphic punch, perfect for today’s hi-def, richly-saturated-hues generation. His love of the enchanted beauty to be found in the hills, valleys, forests and streams around his Bainbridge home in Chenango County, provide him with constant inspiration.
