World famous Glenn Miller Orchestra swinging into town

NORWICH – Fans of big band jazz are in for an big treat as the legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra swings its way into town for the second installment of the Chenango Blues Association’s Summer Concert Series.

From 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in West Park, the world famous jazz ensemble will put on its top-notch show, led by trombonist Gary Tole, who took over as band leader in January of this year. The 19-piece group, which tours extensively, typically performs over 300 shows per year, said Tole.

“It was a huge honor to be chosen as leader of this band,” stated the trombonist. “The music is fantastic and being in this position is great, it’s an iconic moment in my career.”

Formed in 1956, the Glenn Miller Orchestra focuses on the music of the jazz legend himself, who’s known for some of the genre’s most famous compositions, such as “In the Mood,” “American Patrol,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “Moonlight Serenade” and “Little Brown Jug.”

Eric Larsen, president of the Chenango Blues Association’s board of directors, said he and his fellow board members are “really excited” to be able to offer tomorrow’s performance, and called the orchestra an talented, one-of-a-kind group.
