Norwich golfers shoot low score, not enough against hot CV

Chenango Valley 188, Norwich 194

GREENE – Norwich shot its second sub-200 score on the road, but came up six shots shy of Chenango Valley Wednesday at Genegantslet Golf Club.

Mitchell Hillegas shot a 2-under-par 33 over Genny’s front nine to lead the Warriors.

Jacob Kelly birdied four holes including the last two to finish with a season-best 1-under-par 34 to lead the Tornado. Eric Walling was next at 37, Ryan Hagen carded a 39, while Casey Marson and Kyle Cashman turned in matching 42s.

“It was another good performance by the kids,” said Norwich coach Bob Branham. “We just ran into another hot team on their home course.”

Norwich (1-2) is at Owego today.

Boys’ Soccer

Greene 6, Walton 0

GREENE – Greene’s Nate Patrick broke the ice for Greene’s offense, and the Trojans used that momentum to cruise past Walton in Wednesday’s game.

“Putting the ball in the net six times, that’s a great way to start the season,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. “We had a really slow start and couldn’t get things going. Nate’s goal seemed to fire the boys up.”
