Tree auction to raise money for Greene Historical Society

GREENE – The Greene Historical Society is holding a silent Christmas tree auction which they hope will help encourage shoppers to shop locally this holiday season as well as raise money for their organization.

The auction, which will run through Friday, Dec. 11, is intended to help elongate the village’s Hometown Holiday Weekend, which takes place this weekend, explained Sharon Davis, vice president of the historical society.

“By sponsoring trees in the businesses, we are hoping to spread out the holiday trend to more than just a weekend celebration,” she said. “Placing the trees in businesses will promote local shopping as well.”

According to Davis, each of the pre-lit tree 3 or 4-foot trees has been sponsored by a local business or organization and are uniquely decorated in a variety of themes.

Take the Najarian Chiropractic tree, located at Edward Jones, with its bone and skeleton decorations. Or the patriotic tree, on display at Sidney Federal Credit Union. One of Davis’ favorites, she said, is the library schoolhouse tree sponsored by the Moore Memorial Library, complete with miniature chalkboards and school supplies. The Village Variety’s I Spy tree, topped appropriately with a magnifying glass, is a favorite of the society’s president, Nancy Bromley; as is the “roses in blue” themed tree in the window of Dress Your Fancy.
