Marian Hotaling Meyers
Marian Hotaling Meyers, Sherburne, NY, born November 6, 1929 to the late Clifford R. and Grace Balcom Hotaling, died at her home on March 24, 2021 at 91 years of age. Marian attended a one-room schoolhouse in the Town of Columbus for six years and graduated from the Sherburne Central School In 1947. After graduation she worked for Kraft Foods in their accounting department at the South Edmeston plant and for Christman Motors in Norwich as bookkeeper in its Chevy dealership and then for McCredy Motors in Sherburne in its Chevy dealership. She enjoyed the bookkeeping work so much she continued working into her 70’s.
Marian married James K. Meyers, Jr. on May 23, 1954 in the Columbus Community Church where she held offices and remained an active member for the rest of her life. Marian is survived by a special niece, Teresa Horton Parrella (Dan), her care taker for several years, her son Steven (Carolyn) of Wynanskill, grandchildren Samuel, Gregory and Lauren Meyers, sisters Anna Senn (Robert pre-deceased), Ruth and husband Richard Horton of Columbus, brother Lester (Jane pre-deceased) of Springfield, MA, brother-in-law Harold Meyers of Arizona, and many cherished nieces and nephews as well as her much-loved grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was pre-deceased by her son James K. Meyers III, her husband James K. Meyers, Jr., brothers Edward of Sherburne, Clifford (“Butch”) of Sodus and sister Irene (Glenn) Izard of Earlville. She cherished her close friendships and involvement with the Columbus Community Church “family”.
Marian and Jim (“the Truck Driver”) loved to travel, especially camping near lakes as well as travel to Europe including to the UK and Switzerland and to Alaska and many other states. In addition, they logged many hundreds of miles snowmobiling in the Adirondacks from their home in Sherburne and from their home on Lake Pleasant to Indian Lake, Great Sacandaga Lake and to Inlet/Old Forge.
Friends are invited to call on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 11:00 AM until 12 noon at the Columbus Community Church, Columbus, NY.
Due to COVID restrictions, a church service for close family and friends will be held at 12 noon, after which there will be a brief burial service at the Columbus Corners Cemetery.
Following that, there will be a luncheon at the church at approximately 2:00 PM. We remind people of covid protocol – i.e. wearing of masks.
