NORWICH – The Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) will again participate in the semi-annual state-wide festivities known as Path Through History weekend on June 20. As part of the celebration, the museum is hosting special open hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.

Interactive programming begins at 10 a.m. with “Building Brain-Healthy Habits,” presented by the Alzheimer's Association as part of Brain Awareness Month. Learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity, and social engagement to discover how adding brain-building activities into regular routines can enhance quality of life for all ages.

After the workshop, CCHS will commemorate America250 by unveiling the museum’s refreshed “Stitched in Time: The Creations of Beulah Hendrickson” exhibit, featuring pieces from a local textile artist. While Beulah Ayers Barrett Hendrickson (1904-1987) made a living at various times as a teacher, a farmer, and a country store owner, it was her unique ability to handcraft distinctive dolls and figures which has ensured her legacy. This charming display highlights handcrafted regional folk art with patriotic themes.

Immediately following this exhibit opening, join CCHS for a presentation when the Elinor Robb Troicke Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to graduating high school senior Clark Vischi from Sherburne-Earlville High School, who plans to continue his education at SUNY New Paltz.

Annual traditions continue with the debut of the 12th issue of the Journal of the Chenango County Historical Society. To improve accessibility and provide opportunities for increased audience engagement, this yearly anthology will make its digital debut on the CCHS webpage. A tradition since the summer of 2012, the new virtual publication features several scholarly articles highlighting the unique history of Chenango County.

First established in 1939, CCHS is the area’s premier heritage museum dedicated to celebrating local culture — its unique traditions and noteworthy stories. CCHS programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. CCHS is also a proud partner of Bloomberg Connects, an app that allows visitors to enhance their exhibit experience through audio clips, videos, and more. Download this free digital museum guide via the Apple Store or Google Play, and visit www.ChenangoHistorical.org for more details about this and other museum programs.
