City of Utica stabbing suspect arrested in Norwich to face attempted murder charges

NORWICH - On Friday, February 27, a man wanted in relation to a stabbing, Franklin D. Gentry, 41, of Utica, was arrested by Norwich police.

The charges are related to a violent stabbing that occurred on February 15, in the City of Utica and Gentry is facing a second degree attempted murder charge, reported police.

"When we were notified of the situation and the potential risk to our community, that immediately became our number one priority. I am proud of the teamwork between our officers and federal law enforcement partners. They left no stone unturned until the arrest was safely made,” said City of Norwich Police Chief Scott Burlison.

The original incident is being investigated by the City of Utica Police Department.

The United States Marshals Service tracked Gentry to Chenango County during the course of their investigation.

After developing information that Gentry could be in the City of Norwich, the City of Norwich Police Department notified immediately began coordinating with federal authorities to locate the suspect.

Through these combined investigative efforts, Gentry was located at approximately 2:00 p.m. in the area of West Main Street and Guernsey Street in the City of Norwich. Authorities moved in on Gentry and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Following his arrest, Gentry was transported by the United States Marshals Service back to the City of Utica to be processed on the pending attempted murder charge.

Additional charges stemming from the original incident are expected. Gentry was booked into the Oneida County jail.
