GREENE— The Greene Trojans boys’ basketball team hosted Sidney in a MAC league contest, where the Trojans also honored its Class of 2026 seniors. Congratulations to Dallyn Camp and Keegan Waltz.
Greene battled with Sidney, but the Sabers surged in the second half to take control of the contest and come up with the 64-49 win.
The Trojans had an excellent start as they won the jump ball and senior Keegan Waltz right away had a bucket. After that, Greene pressured Sidney as the Sabers had back-to-back out of bound turnovers to help the Trojans build on to their early lead.
However, the Sabers turned things around, where they scored on Greene turnovers to take a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
It continued to be a back-and-forth affair before the break as Greene regained the lead with buckets by Kane Winn, Gavin Ely (tied), and Jacob Eroshevich.
Once again, Sidney fired up with three’s to retake the lead and lead 26-20 at halftime.
The Sabers came out firing again in the second half, where they once led by 20 points late in the third quarter. Greene attempted a comeback with late three’s in the fourth quarter, but could not contain on defense. Sidney also out rebounded the Trojans to help them control the contest.
Keegan Waltz had two baskets and “and ones” late in the fourth quarter for Greene and had a nice play with fellow senior Dallyn Camp at the end of the game. Camp stole the ball on defense and had a nice breakaway, but missed the shot. Waltz rebounded and scored at the final second.
Waltz led Greene with 15 points, including 11 points in the final eight minutes of the game.
Eli Eggleston played a great game as well with nine points, where he hit two three’s in the fourth quarter.
John Mulroy traded baskets with Sidney’s Jesse Newell in the battle of heights. Mulroy finished with eight points within the first three quarters.
Jacob Eroshevich added six points as Gavin Ely had four points.
Liam Clark hit a three in the second quarter and Kane Winn and Lee Dopp both finished with two points in the loss.
