SHERBURNE —Friends of Rogers invites community members of all ages to join the free Thankful for Trails, special clean-up and nature walk at the Rogers Center, from 3 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, located at 2721 State Highway 80 in Sherburne.
“This event offers an opportunity to give back by helping to care for the grounds we all enjoy,” said Friend of Rogers Senior Environmental Educator Erica Clark.
Clark said participants will gather in the main parking lot off of route 80, before setting out to spruce up the grounds, collecting litter and enjoying a little hike along one of their beautiful trails.
She noted they will supply gloves and garbage bags and suggest participants wear sturdy walking shoes and dress for the weather.
Although free, Clark said registration is required and to sign up, email her at erica@friendsofrogers.org.
“With more than 600 acres of preserved land and seven miles of scenic trails, Rogers Center is a cherished natural resource for our region,” she added.
“Join us as we celebrate our trails, support our environment, and strengthen our community, one step at a time,” said Clark.
Friends of Rogers staff and board provide many free or reduced cost programs to the public. Supported by a number of Central New York’s local foundations, these programs run on a monthly basis, bringing in expert speakers and leading guided excursions, all with an educational agenda.
Friends of Rogers also hosts seasonal events for the community: Winter Living Celebration; Earth Day; Get Outdoors, Get Together Day; and Animals of Halloween.
According to the Friends of Rogers website, Rogers Center is New York State’s oldest environmental education center. New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation operated Rogers Center until 2010.
In 2011, the Friends of Rogers, a private nonprofit organization, reopened Rogers Center for current and future generations for continued enjoyment.
