Greene Girls’ Soccer Advances With An Overtime Victory Over Newfield

NEWFIELD — The Greene Trojans girls’ soccer team earned the 10th seed in the Section IV, Class C tournament and traveled to face the seven seed Newfield. Greene pulled the upset with a 2-1 victory in two overtime periods.

Newfield got on the board early in the first half and took the 1-0 lead into the break.

Greene tied the game in the second half with a goal by Hailey Butler off an assist from Miah Cragle.

The game stayed at 1-1 at the end of regulation and at the end of the first overtime period.

Greene’s Caitlin Walls hit the game-winner off a pass from Butler.

Quinlin Cavanaugh made six saves in net for the Trojans to secure the victory.

Greene moves on to face the second seed, Elmira Notre Dame on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. for a shot to play in the semi-finals.
