NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley/GMU boys’ soccer team hosted Unatego/Franklin for a MAC league contest on Friday under the lights at Unadilla Valley High School. It was also senior night for the Storm, where they honored their 10 seniors following the game. The Spartan Devils spoiled the Storm’s special night with a 4-1 victory.
Congratulations to seniors Preston York, Steven Johnson, Kyle Keuhn, Latham Retz, Braden Golliver, Brodey Cattanach, Jerson Lopez, Dalton Fernette, Zayne Dibbell, and Seth Meagley.
Both teams were tied 0-0 at halftime as both goalies stood their ground to prevent early scoring opportunities. The Spartan Devils fired many shots on goal that were saved by UV’s Cattanach, including a great save on a free kick to keep the game scoreless at the break.
However, Unatego/Franklin kept gaining good possession after the break, breaking the tie with a goal four minutes into the second half. A minute later, it was 2-0 Unatego/Franklin after Cattanach was occupied, leaving an empty net. Steven Johnson had an opportunity on UV’s possession but his shot was blocked.
Cattanach made back-to-back saves left and right, but the Spartan Devils then made it 3-0.
The Storm finally answered back with great movement from Seth Meagley, who cross it to Payton Behnke for the score. Meagley nearly had a goal himself as well as Braden Golliver, who gave the Storm a corner kick late in the game. The Spartan Devils regained a three-goal lead with under five minutes left to play.
UV/GMU’s Brodey Cattanach made 11 saves in the loss.
UV/GMU hosts Stamford on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. for the final home game of the 2025 season.
