SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves hosted Class D’s Weedsport on Friday night. While Weedsport is a relatively unfamiliar opponent for S-E’s current roster, Coach Steve Franklin noted that the teams last met in a playoff game roughly seven or eight years ago.

S-E focused on stopping one of the league’s top running backs, Trevor Moon, after reviewing game film. Moon proved difficult to contain, rushing 23 times for 266 yards and three touchdowns, forcing S-E’s defense to play catch-up and leaving the offense scrambling. Ultimately, Moon and the Wolverines secured a 29-12 victory.

Despite the loss, S-E’s offense showed signs of life as the game progressed, though the defense struggled to settle. “We outplayed Weedsport for much of the game, but mistakes in the red zone—turnovers, penalties, and wrong routes—kept us from executing,” Franklin said.

Lukas Schieferstein stood out for S-E, rushing for 100 yards with a touchdown and adding 120 receiving yards. “He’s been a blessing,” Franklin said. “He’s fun to watch, but we need to move him around to create mismatches as other teams start catching on.”

At quarterback, Hadden Price and Jordan Palmer split reps. Price, limited by injuries, completed 10 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown to Tomek Jusianiec, while Palmer also completed 10 passes for 119 yards but threw an interception. Franklin praised both, noting, “With Price limited, Palmer does a solid job for us. We don’t have to change the offense at all.”

S-E will face Phoenix on Friday for senior night, a matchup that has grown into a friendly rivalry over recent years. “They are well-coached and run a similar style to us, so our defense should be able to take advantage,” Franklin said.
