NORWICH – The Chenango County Area Agency on Aging (AAOA) will be hosting two upcoming senior events.

The first event will be this week with a free annual ‘Senior Prom’ and Casino Night. The second event will be in October, with their final Pop-Up Dining.

The 'Senior Prom' and Casino Night, will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., September 19, located at the Norwich American Legion, at 29 Sheldon Street in Norwich.

“This will be our third year hosting the Senior Prom event and it is well attended by our older adults as it provides an opportunity to fight social isolation and enjoy the company of others,” said AAOA Director Heather Collier.

To start the evening, there will be finger foods along with cheese tortellini with pesto, ceasar salad, peas, desserts, and mock-tails.


Collier said there will be various casino games such as black jack, roulette, pitch, and a “live” slot machine that will highlight some of their agency staff and volunteers.

“The DJ will fill the evening with classic hits and requests to keep our guests dancing the evening away,” she said.

Collier said registration for the prom event filled quickly and it is now closed but they look forward to another fun filled evening with the seniors in the community.

Parking will be available at the legion in the parking lot behind the building.

The second event will be the final 2025 Fall Pop-Up Dining. The hours will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m., October 15, at the Pharsalia Farmers Market, in the Pharsalia Firehouse, located at 838 County Road 10.

Collier said the event is for seniors age 60 and over but guests under 60 are welcome with a suggested contribution of $9.50 and a reservation.

“We are accepting reservations now,” said Collier. “Please call 607-337-1770 to reserve your prepared meal.

The agency will be offering pesto chicken, oven roasted potatoes, cream style corn, a dinner roll, and fruit cocktail.

Parking for this event will be in the Pharsalia Firehouse parking lot.
