GREENE – Coming off their first game as a merged team last Friday, the Oxford-Greene football team was back in action, taking on Harpursville/Afton for senior night at George G. Raymond Field. Both football programs honored its 20 seniors: Troy Braman, Jacob Gallo, Dallyn Camp, Micah LaFave, Severin Lodge, Keegan Waltz, Micheal Slater, Jasen Ledford, Aiden Ives, Richard Hunter, Lazarus Ludolph, Aiden Carter, Aiden Mellem, Jaxon Frellis, Shawn Pixley, Tallan Davis, Urijah Dibble, Isaiah Sexton, Gabriel Jimenez, and Drake Malmquist.

Oxford-Greene saw great improvements from the week before, but fell short 22-18 to Harpursville/Afton.

“Senior night is always special,” OG co-head coach Jason Lyon said. “We try and get every kid in and try to honor them. The only thing that would have made it better was a win, but I have to give it out to these guys. They played a great game and I’m very proud of them.”

It was also an emotional night for Lyon, playing against his former team.

“Everything they [Harpursville/Afton] came out and did tonight was nothing that they showed on film. They were very well prepared,” Lyon said. “I’ve coached every one of the boys on that team, except for one. Regardless, we are still a football family. I love my new team and I’m proud of them and they worked so hard today. We were just outplayed. They made adjustments when they needed to and we made adjustments too, but they just made one more better adjustment than we did.”

Oxford-Greene saw two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Jacob Gallo, who also is a utility player both offensively and defensively and can also kick the ball well too. OG’s Keegan Waltz also had a big touchdown run after the team started at around their own 20-yard line.

“He [Gallo] did a great job,” Lyon said. “I’m so proud of the boys and as coach Wrench said, we’re adjusting from two programs to one team and they have a style and Greene has a style and coming together, we are still working on it, and we’re meshing and getting better every day.”

Oxford-Greene (0-2) heads to Sidney on Friday at 7 p.m.
