OXFORD – With both teams coming off tough losses in the Sherburne-Earlville kickoff tournament last weekend, both Oxford and S-E faced off in a local non-league county matchup. S-E earned its first win of the 2025 season with a close 4-2 victory.

S-E took a 2-1 lead into halftime from a goal by Kylor Buschor off a corner kick and Will Leinbach’s goal off a counter. Oxford’s Joey Locke scored his first varsity goal to cut the lead in half before the break.

In the second half, both teams were fired up even more with plenty of opportunities, but both goalkeepers stood their ground until S-E got ahead 3-1. However, Oxford’s Dawson Viele pulled his team within one off a corner kick, making it 3-2.

S-E’s Colin Pudney and Jacob Sulton made the difference with goals in the second half to secure the victory for the visiting Timberwolves. Will Leinbach also had an assist.

Both goalies played a great game as S-E’s JJ Fischer made five saves on the winning side and Oxford’s Kayden Renfrow saved seven shots in the loss.

S-E (1-1) hosts Hamilton on Thursday, September 11 at 4 p.m. while Oxford (0-2) heads to Franklin to play Unatego/Franklin on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
