NORWICH - On Thursday, August 20, 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Troopers from SP Norwich, members of the Norwich City Fire Department and Preston Fire Department were dispatched to 660 County Road 4 in the Town of Preston for a report of a house on fire.
NY Troopers arrived and found the residence fully engulfed in flames.
Neighbors reported that the 62-year-old female tenant may still be inside the residence and had attempted to make contact with her but were unsuccessful.
Members of the fire department located the tenant deceased inside the residence.
Members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Chenango County Fire Investigators responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing.
