NORWICH – The Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ swim team hosted the Sus Valley Sabers at the Norwich High School pool on Wednesday night. Norwich came away with the 78-48 win between the two small, but skilled teams.
Senior Mikayla Sastri led Norwich in all four of her events. She took the victory in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:14.89 with Kaelyn Conant in second place with a new personal best 2:35.57. Sastri earned the win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:05.68 and led the Norwich 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams, along with Conant, Alexandra Shtrauch, and Olivia Palmer, to first place finishes as well.
Shtrauch took second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:51.75 and was the lone swimmer in the butterfly with a time of 1:35.80.
Olivia Palmer, Jillian Petrie, and Brynn Meek all swam in the 50 freestyle. Palmer achieved a new personal best time of 30.48 seconds to win the event. Petrie took second with a new best time of 31.06 seconds. Meek finished fifth out of sixth swimmers with a time of 36.55 seconds.
Petrie earned a first place finish in the 100 backstroke event with a time of 1:21.34 with Conant taking the top finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:31.07 and Raeley Patterson in second with a new best time of 1:47.90.
Palmer, Patterson, and Meek also swam in the 100 freestyle. Palmer came in second with a time of 1:09.93 behind Sus Valley’s 1:03.36. Patterson swam a new personal best time of 1.21 with Meek in fourth (1:22.75).
Norwich heads right into the Wolverine Invitational at Waverly High School on Saturday.
