OXFORD — Canal Street Hardware and Supply, located at 3 South Canal Street in Oxford, NY, has re-opened under new ownership.
Oxford residents Jason and Cashmire Chesebro closed on the sale of the store in August and have been busily preparing for the re-opening, which took place yesterday, September 2.
Cashmire Chesebro said they have partnered as a team to make this happen and with her ownership at 51 percent, the store will run as a woman-owned business.
“We’re so excited for this new adventure and I am thankful for my husband trusting me to take the reins and lead it as a woman-owned business in our small town,” said Cashmire.
They considered purchasing the store after many community members approached them with hope they would save the store.
Cashmire said it was something she always wanted to do, to go into business with her husband.
“We’re family oriented and being in a small town where my husband was born and raised, and has grown up, we just want to keep the roots going,” she said.
“It’s so important to keep small businesses open and especially in this town,” said Cashmire. “The store is a necessity and it is nice to be able to just pop in and have the convenience right around the corner from your home.”
In most recent weeks, they have been on-boarding four new employees and will have a few teenagers working after school.
She said the new signage will be up soon and will read; Canal Street Hardware and Supply, LLC, and said next year they will begin working on the outside of the building.
Cashmire thanked previous owners Jan and Rick, the community and friends and family and mentioned they will have an open house in the future.
“They have all supported us to get this up and running,” she added.
Her husband Jason Chesebro owns Upstate Tool and Equipment and looks forward to running the hardware store with his wife.
“This is her baby, I’m just helping her get started” he said.
Within a couple of weeks Jason said they will add gases and welding supplies.
He added, “Basically, we’ll have a welding isle, right in the middle of the store.”
“And when you can’t find something anywhere else, you can find it here,” said Jason.
They look forward to offering the best services and expert advice for projects around the house or backyard.
The hardware store has been locally owned for years and offers a variety of hardware supplies including fasteners,
