SHERBURNE - At Sherburne Rotary Club’s Fourth of July ‘Music in the Park’ celebration, Town of Sherburne Planning Board Chair Stephanie Staley and Mohawk Valley Economic Development District (MVEDD) representative Anthony Marris, had the chance to connect with local residents about Sherburne’s future.
Marris were pleased to speak with community members about the Town’s ongoing 10-Year comprehensive planning effort.
The comprehensive plan is meant to support local systems, strengthen community resources, foster positive economic development while maintaining our rural character, and create a shared vision for Sherburne.
Volunteers serving on the Town’s steering committee are reviewing resources the community has and four key areas for improvement: Agriculture, business, education, culture, and health.
In addition to each group’s particular key topic, Staley explained each of the subcommittees is working with an eye towards housing, an important issue that overlaps with all four areas of focus.
“They are working to identify gaps and find ways to bridge them, while keeping Sherburne’s rural character and strong sense of community at the center,” stated Staley. “This next phase of the planning process is about listening. The planning board and our steering sub-committees want to hear directly from you.”
“We want your ideas, concerns, and hopes for the future. What programs could use more funding this decade? Dream big for our small town,” stated Staley.
With support from the town board and leadership from Supervisor Charlie Mastro, Staley said Sherburne and the planning board is is taking important steps toward a safe, equitable future that works for everyone.
