COOPERSTOWN – The 2025 Otsenango Pony League summer season has begun. The Oxford Blackhawks 16 and under team traveled to Doubleday to take on Cooperstown. The Blackhawks came home with a close 7-5 win.
Oxford put up three runs to start with Joey Locke leading off with a single to right field on the first pitch he saw on the night. He would move to third as Degan Endress doubled to right. Uri Tracey reached on a dropped third strike, which brought in Locke and then stole second to put two in scoring position for Bodie Barrows with one out.
Barrows reached on an error to bring in Endress while a double-steal occurred on Adam Beckwith’s at bat. Tracey stole home as Barrows stole second base.
Cooperstown got two back in the bottom of the first after two back-to-back walks to start the inning with a groundout RBI and an RBI single.
Oxford added on with a run in the top of the second before Cooperstown tied the game at four in the third inning. The Blackhawks regained the lead in the top of the fourth to go ahead 6-4 and held Cooperstown to a final run in the sixth before scoring one more run themselves in the top of the seventh.
Degan Endress and Joey Locke both led Oxford with two hits as Endress, Uri Tracey, and Korbin Sampson each drove in one run each.
Uri Tracey earned the start, where he went five innings and did enter the sixth, where he allowed a lead-off double before Adam Beckwith came in. Tracey allowed five earned runs on seven hits, five walks, and struck out three batters. Adam Beckwith finished off the game in relief, allowing just two walks through the final two innings.
Oxford (1-0) hosts Schenevus on Monday at 6 p.m.
