NORWICH — There's lots to do this month at the Guernsey Memorial Library, with fun activities for all ages.
Adults can get active at Dancing for Wellness at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 and Wednesday, June 25 in the library's Meeting Room. The class focuses on different styles of ballroom dance from various cultures, and is taught by local dancer Martha Ryan.
"Every month we pick a dance theme, because it's also meant to be a cultural experience. So every month we pick one dance and they talk about the origin of the dance, some of the stories of how the dance started, and then we practice some steps, and we add them to the group of steps and dances we do every month," Ryan explained. "Most of them are Latin dances. They get an idea of the cultural part of it and then we learn the steps. Very simple steps, we don’t do any acrobatics."
Attendees should wear close-toed ballet or dance shoes, bring water, and wear comfortable clothing.
On Saturday, June 14, the library's Sewing Club will be meeting from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Sewing enthusiasts of all skill levels are welcome to bring down their machines and projects for this open-sew event.
