OXFORD – Singer/songwriter Laurie MacAllister of Americana trio Red Molly will bring her first solo tour to 6 On The Square in Oxford at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7. Opening for MacAllister will be Fred Gillen Jr.

In late 2024, MacAllister launched a solo career with a sold-out performance at the legendary Club Passim. Two decades earlier, she co-founded Red Molly, which released seven critically acclaimed albums and toured the U.S. and internationally, including appearances at MerleFest, Cayamo and Boston Symphony Hall.

Along the way, ad executives heard MacAllister’s voice on the Red Molly album “Never Been to Vegas” and invited her to sing the iconic Folgers Coffee jingle for a national TV commercial.

Her 2018 self-produced solo album "The Lies the Poets Tell" is a heartfelt tribute to the contemporary folk music scene, celebrating a handful of its best songs and songwriters. It features duets with six male artists, including the late Jimmy LaFave.

MacAllister’s earlier solo album "The Things I Choose To Do” was produced by folk luminary Cliff Eberhardt and was first released independently. Hearing it, Barnes & Noble re-released it as an exclusive on its label.

For her solo debut tour, MacAllister is headlining shows in 2025 across the Northeast, bringing her soulful, loving voice and presence to fans old and new.

Story Continues Below Adverts

Gillen embarked on his independent solo career in 1997, after the demise of the band Rain Deputies, who he had been bassist for since 1992. Since then, he has performed all over the world, from California to Kathmandu, from Indiana to India, and many places in between. Throughout his travels, his home as an artist and as a person has always been New York’s Hudson Valley.

He has shared the stage with some of his heroes, including Pete Seeger, Merle Haggard, Todd Rundgren, the David Bromberg Big Band and Red Molly. His latest record, “Canyon of Light,” is his 12th full-length studio album. It includes 12 new songs, with Gillen playing all the instruments during the COVID pandemic.

Tickets for the 6OTS performance are $25 in advance or $30 at the door; purchase at 6onthesquare.org or call 607-843-OTS6 (6876) to make a reservation. Doors open one hour before the start of performances. The concert also will be streamed live online for $10; more information at 6onthesquare.org.

Performances supported in part by the R.C. Smith Foundation, and by Earlville Opera House's Arts in the Community Grants Program, made possible by the NYS Legislature with support of the Office of the Governor, and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts.
