NORWICH ― The Chenango Arts Council is offering a bus trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Saturday, August 2.
A bus will depart from the Chenango Arts Council parking lot at 7 a.m., and will arrive at The Met around 10 a.m. Visitors will be able to explore the museum at their leisure until closing at 5 p.m., and then return to the Chenango Arts Council. The bus is expected to arrive back in Norwich around 9:30 p.m.
"They’re going to arrive at The Met close to opening, so then they’re going to have the full day to wander around, take a look at what they want to take a look at. There are some great exhibits that are there all the time, for all kinds of cultures and periods in history, and they also have temporary exhibits," explained Chenango Arts Council Administrative Assistant Mary Beth Miller.
"There’s one for Sanger in Paris, and there’s one about armor, medieval armor," she continued. "There’s a lot of others as well. There's one about Chinese bronzes, and they also have an Egyptian wing and a Greek art wing and Native American art. All kinds of art from all kinds of periods in history and cultures from all over the world, and people will be able to explore all day."
Tickets are $125 per person, and include the round-trip bus ride and admission into The Met. Miller said visitors will also be able to purchase lunch at one of the many dining options at the museum. Individuals must register by July 3, and they can do so at ChenangoArts.org.
This trip is open to all ages, but any minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Miller said the proceeds from the trip will go toward supporting the Chenango Arts Council's programming, such as their performance season, gallery season, free movies, and workshops.
She said the Arts Council offered several bus trips before the COVID-19 pandemic, and they're working to begin hosting them again.
"We were doing them more and then the pandemic happened. So now we're trying to bring them back. So we’re always looking for interesting bus trips and things, so this seemed like a good starting point to go to The Met in New York," she said. "It’s a really interesting trip and there are all kinds of different things to be able to see, and they have exhibits that they take out, so there’s always something new to see. So it’s definitely a great trip."
