Local Athletes Shine At Indoor Track State Qualifiers

ITHACA – All local indoor track teams were in full strength at the 2024 Section IV State qualifiers meet held at Cornell University on Sunday afternoon. BGA, Norwich, and Unadilla Valley are sending multiple athletes to states while Oxford/Greene finished off a solid winter season. Congratulations to all athletes. Girls:

After winning the sectional title, the Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton girls settled into the state qualifiers strong. The Bears’ 4x800 relay team, which consisted of Maddie Ingham, Ethne Degan, Lelania Baldwin, Laila Williams, Vanessa Brazee, Sage Pruskowski, Macey LaFever, and Kaydence Brimmer finished second with a time of 10:40.79 behind Corning’s 10:03.17.

Degan led all female runners in the 1000 meter run with a first place finish that sends her to states again. She achieved a time of 3:02.41 with teammate Ingham in seventh place with a new best time of 3:13.86. Lelania Baldwin finished 11 with her new personal best time of 3:29.13.

Degan also competed in the 1500 meter run, where she came in 13th place with a time of 5:41.31 as Vanessa Brazee finished behind her in 14th with a new best time of 5:41.80. Makayla McCloud took third in the 55 meter dash with a speedy time of 7.60 seconds. She also finished 13th in the long jump (15-7.25). Emily Sprow finished 12th in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, seven and 3/4 inches. She came in sixth in the triple jump (33-6.25).
